A Monday Noteā¦.
Good Monday morning after a long deer hunt in the Wisconsin north woods. I just crawled out of the forests of Boulder Junction in Vilas County to find a ton of photos and stories waiting for posting on the On Wisconsin Outdoors website.
We’re getting right to that, as you will soon see, and we will follow with my regular blog by this Thursday. In the meantime, don’t just read what the other hunters did. Send us your photos and stories directly to me at ellis@onwisconsinoutdoors.com and we will post.
Anglers too. I know several musky men who have quit deer hunting because the week of gun deer season is the very best for a chance at a trophy fish, especially when the ciscoe are spawning.
We’ll talk more soon. Oh…a couple years of bucks-only management has made obvious improvement in Vilas County. I averaged seeing one deer per day, which is heaven compared to last year when our group spent 70 hours on portable climbing stands to see three deer collectively. I hope DNR keeps our hands off the does for a while yet.
This year I passed on a spike at 20 yards broadside because his body looked like an average hunting lab. He was a scrawny bugger and I just couldn’t do it. No regrets.
Later. I hope you shot straight.
