World’s largest white tail buck celebrated
In 1914, Jim Jordan from Danbury, Wisconsin did not know he had just shot a record white tail buck. Then the mount went missing for nearly fifty years before the Jordan Buck was officially crowned the world’s largest buck.
On Saturday, September 24th, the Burnett County community will celebrate this local history by dedicating the Jordan Buck Statue placed less than a mile from the hunt site along the Gandy Dancer Trail.
Ron Schara from Minnesota Bound will help tell the Jim Jordan story at the 10 am dedication. Schara’s story in the Minneapolis Tribune brought attention to the record deer which led to the Boone and Crocket record designation.
The Danbury celebration begins with the statue dedication at 10 am followed by a parade at noon. Horse-drawn wagon rides will travel down the old Soo Line trail with interpreters describing the hunt. The buck was harvested on the bank of the Yellow River which the wagon will cross providing a step back in time from a high view of the river.
The daylong event includes over 20 crafters, food vendors, activities for kids, and a street dance. Tree colors are beginning to pop, promising a grand fall event in Northwest Wisconsin.
