Time with family and friends in the field highlights 164th annual nine-day gun deer hunt

MADISON - Hunters of all ages journeyed into the outdoors with family and friends for another nine-day gun deer opener in Wisconsin.

Hunters throughout Wisconsin have done an excellent job of learning new rules and regulations, and electronic registration has provided added convenience while keeping time-honored traditions intact.

Austin McGuine from Sauk City, Wis. harvested his deer opening morning and travelled to town to complete his registration. To find a station near you, visit dnr.wi.gov<http://dnr.wi.gov/> and search keywords "registration station<http://prodoasext.dnr.wi.gov/inter1/pk_cwd_regpub$.startup>."

Preliminary registration numbers and license sales

As of this morning, 828,664 licenses have been sold, compared to 816,292 at the same time last year. For a look at gun deer license sales and other information regarding deer hunting in Wisconsin, search keyword "deer<http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/hunt/deer.html>."

Electronic deer registration through the GameReg system<http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/hunt/ereg.html> allows for up-to-date preliminary registration numbers on the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources' website throughout the nine-day gun deer season.

Preliminary gun deer harvest information is summarized by both county and management zone, and will continue to be updated regularly through the end of the nine-day season. To view preliminary 2015 gun deer registration numbers, search keywords "weekly totals<http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/hunt/deerharvest.html>."

NOTE: Hunters must register their deer by 5 p.m. the day after harvest in 2015, as opposed to 5 p.m. the day after the nine-day season closes in years past - this means that caution should be used in interpreting harvest trends as the data sources are different than in years past during the season. To access harvest statistics from previous years, search keywords "harvest summary<http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/wildlifehabitat/harvest/deerharvest.html>."
