Get ready for the 2016 Gun Deer Hunt for Hunters with Disabilities!

With the gun deer hunt for hunters with disabilities approaching, please note two corrected errors in the current Deer Hunting Regulations booklet regarding this special hunt:

  • Page 40 states:

“Anyone participating in this hunt may use any antlerless deer tag to tag an antlerless deer in any unit statewide, regardless of what disabled permit type they have; tag is land type-specific (public access or private)”.

This bullet point has been corrected to state: “Anyone participating in this hunt may use one Farmland (Zone 2) Antlerless Deer Tag to tag an antlerless deer in any unit statewide, regardless of what disabled permit type they have; tag is land type- specific (public access or private)”.  Additionally, if the disabled hunter has also purchased an archer/crossbow license, they can tag one additional antlerless deer during this hunt with one of the Farmland (Zone 2) Antlerless Deer Tags that came with their archer/crossbow license in any unit statewide, including buck-only units. Antlerless tags are land type-specific (public access or private).

  • Page 41 states:

“Bonus Antlerless Deer Carcass Tags are valid for tagging one antlerless deer in any unit statewide, but is restricted to the land type (public access or private land) specified one the tag.  This tag is NOT weapon-specific”.

This bullet point should state: “$12 Bonus Antlerless Deer Tags are valid only for tagging antlerless deer in the zone, DMU, and land type (public access or private) specified on the tag and are NOT weapon- or season-specific”.

Deer Registration:

For participants who plan on using their Farmland (Zone 2) Antlerless Deer Tag in a county that is different than the county specified on the tag, we strongly recommend using the online GameReg system (https://gowild.wi.gov/wildlife/harvest) or calling the DNR Customer Service Line (1-888-936-7463) to register your deer.  Using the regular call-in phone system to register your deer will not allow you to change your county selection, which may cause hunters frustration, as well as provide inaccurate harvest data.

The Gun Buck Carcass Tag regulations in the regulations booklet are correct.  This tag is valid for tagging one buck statewide.  It may not be used to tag an antlerless deer.

For more information, please visit dnr.wi.gov and search keyword "disabled deer hunt."

Good luck on the upcoming hunt!  We always love to see your photos, and in fact regularly use them in publications.  Please share them with us!
