Six fun and free ways to prepare for the hunt and share stories of the deer season!

We are here to answer your questions, share great stories and photos, and celebrate the safe and successful adventures of first-time hunters! Join us as the nine-day season excitement builds!

 1. Get your pre-season questions answered live – join online chats with DNR experts

Tuesday, Nov. 19, Noon: Be ready - Gearing up for the season
Learn what DNR staff and other hunters preparing for the season are seeing in the field now, and what you can expect for the 2013 season.

Wednesday, Nov. 20, Noon: Be knowledgeable - Know where to go
Wisconsin has a wealth of acres of hunting land accessible to the public. Join our discussion about how to easily find land where you want to hunt.

Thursday, Nov. 21, Noon: Be safe- Important reminders on safety and regulations
Get safety questions answered and get up to speed on any regulation changes before heading to the field.

To participate, visit dnr.wi.gov and look for the box on the right to enter the chat, or search the phrase "ask the experts.” You can also join the conversation on DNR’s Facebook page, by clicking the “Cover it Live Chat” box on the top of the page.

2. Pin-it-to-win-it Contest

Beginning Monday, Nov. 18, we will launch a Pin-it-to-Win-it contest. We want to see what hunting traditions mean to you – like getting your gear ready, being out in the woods, or a traditional family recipe! Entering is easy and it will land the winner a three year subscription to Wisconsin Natural Resources magazine. Details can be found on the DNR Facebook page starting on November 18.

3. First Harvest Certificate – Free!

New this year is the First Harvest Certificate. This is a great way for those who harvest a deer for the first time to preserve this special hunting memory. Information about when and where the deer was harvested, who you were hunting with, and even a picture can be displayed on the certificate. Visit dnr.wi.gov, search keyword “deer,” fill out the form, and we’ll take care of the rest!

4. FREE mobile app – coming soon!

Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, in partnership with ParksByNature Network® and Wisconsin Interactive Network, is proud to announce the upcoming launch of the Wisconsin Fish & Wildlife Pocket Ranger® Smartphone App for iPhone and Android. The app will have detailed hunting information just in time for deer season, including: places to hunt, rules and regulations, license and permit information, a safety communication tool, and a Trophy Case to share photos with a community of hunters! Keep your eyes on dnr.wi.gov, search “deer,” to get the app!

5. Facebook and Twitter

Share your photos and stories using #WIhunt. We will be posting updates from across the state so you can see in real time what is going on in the field. We will be doing ride-a-longs with our wardens throughout the nine day hunt and will share their experience on Twitter.

6. Deer Hunt WI - TV special with Dan Small

Kick off your season by watching Deer Hunt Wisconsin 2013 with Dan Small. Watch the program to get expert tips to help you prepare for a fun, safe and successful hunt. For convenient viewing, visit dnr.wi.gov, search keywords “deer show,” to watch one segment at a time.
