Attention Trappers: new fisher and otter zone boundaries coming this fall

Following an extensive period of review and public input, Wisconsin now has two identical fisher and river otter management zones.  The new Northern and Southern zones are divided by Highway 64, consistent with the existing bobcat management zones.  Moving to a two-zone framework will help improve population models and allow trappers additional flexibility when deciding where to trap.

As a reminder, fisher and otter applications are due on Aug. 1and can be submitted online through gowild.wi.gov.  Applicants will select either the Northern Zone or Southern Zone when applying for a permit or preference point.

For more information on trapping, visit dnr.wi.gov and search keyword “trap.”
