Another Wonderful Year

By Stacie Dowd

It’s been another fun filled successful deer hunt this year.

I got a beautiful 8-pointer on Saturday November 12th with my bow.  My husband Jerry and I spent that whole day out in the woods.  It was about 15 minutes before close when he came out of some thick brush and gave me a 10 yard shot.  He is the biggest buck I have shot so far.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

I got the 7-pointer in the morning of opening day of gun hunt. That day it was so cold out.  The wind was horrible.  It was mid-morning, I was freezing, ready to go walk over by Jerry to warm up a little.  And out of nowhere came this 7-pointer over the ridge in the woods.  He gave me a 40-yard broadside shot.

My doe I will never forget.  My two younger children wanted to come hunting with Jerry and me after school November 22nd.  My daughter chose to sit with my husband and my son Klayton chose to sit with me.  After getting the kids from school and driving to where we were hunting in Jefferson County we only had about an hour before close.

Klayton and I were standing talking. We were talking about the deer tracks we had seen in the mud on the edge of this grassy field when out of the thick brush ran three does.  I yelled to get them to stop or slow down.  I had my rifle and it was about a 125 yard shot but I got one.  I will never forget Klayton saying, “Mama, you got her.  Yes! I finally got to see some action."

He was so excited.  It was awesome.  Our children have started coming along with us more this year and are loving it.  Next year it's all about our daughter Kayle who turns 10.  She is super excited to be able to start hunting with us and we can't wait to teach her all about loving the outdoors.

 Thanks for letting me share.

OWO Note:  Stacie and Jerry don’t just stick to deer. The double on jakes was taken in 2016.
