MADISON – Following court proceedings taking place this morning, August 29, 2012, before Judge Peter C. Anderson, officials at the Department of Natural Resources are issuing the following statement.
While the court did not act on the request for a temporary injunction today, we do anticipate a ruling from Judge Anderson on the afternoon of Friday, August 31.
The injunction, if granted, could prevent the department from issuing licenses until additional restrictions on the use of dogs for tracking and trailing wolves are adopted.
Given the time it would take to initiate a rule making process, such an action would prevent the 2012-13 wolf hunting and trapping season.
The department continues to believe that the rules on use of dogs, which are prescribed in statute and rule, and which are similar to those that are currently in place for bear and many other species are adequate, reasonable and practical regulations."
