Diary of a Wisconsin Bear Guide
By Mike Foss
The 2012 bear season is in the books; the last day for bait sitters was September 10. I finally took down the outfitter tents, sealed all bait barrels, secured them outside so no critters could get at them, cleaned the garage, and took inventory of all stands and equipment. I still have a nuisance bear tag I am working on and would like to see some warmer weather to get that bait station active again.

Last bear of the 2012 season captured on one of Guide Mike Foss’s Cuddeback Trail Cameras. | Nice 4 1/2 year old 8- point Wisconsin bear and deer guide Mike Foss passed on last year. The buck has put on 20 more inches. |
On to Archery deer season. I placed five stands this past week and already there is buck activity being seen; smaller bucks sparing, leaving rubs and making scrapes. Placed Cuddeback trail cameras last week and checked them. The biggest buck I have captured on camera is a 4- 1/2 year old I passed up last year. He is a real good looking buck; it will be hard to pass him up this year if given the opportunity.
Went and purchased my Small Game License and Archery Deer License. I was very disappointed that Wisconsin is giving out doe permits for my area (unit 3). I was hoping they would go one more year without doe tags being given out. What is the difference between comparing the population here in 2011 to this year?
I don't get it......Until next time Good Hunting
