First Time Bear Hunter Pleased with Hunt

Northern Wisconsin Outfitters

Tom Wurtz of Janesville took his first bear hunting with Northern Wisconsin Outfitters last week in Bayfield County.

“These guys at Northern Wisconsin Outfitters run a fantastic, top-notch camp,” Wurtz said during an interview in the Washburn area based camp.  “They know what they’re doing.  They really had good stand placements.  This was my first bear hunt.”

“My son Troy found Mike Foss last year after a lot of research and got it arranged. We were supposed to hunt together in 2014 but I popped a disc three weeks before the hunt.  The DNR gave me my points and money back.”

Last year, Tom Wurtz said, Troy tagged a 150 pound bear and his brother Chuck tagged a 300 pound bear hunting with Northern Wisconsin Outfitter.  This season, Tom returned to camp and the bear came down the trail after two hours on stand.  He watched 150 pound boar for 30 minutes trying to decide whether or not he wanted to wait for a larger bear.

Not quite recovered from surgery to use the bow that was his first choice, Tom made a quick kill with his 30-06.

“I was very happy with the hunt,” he said.  All the hunters were really nice. Everyone gets along and everyone likes to talk in camp.  The helpers are also really good.”
