Hunting: Whale-Tails Prostaff

A couple years ago I started archery. I never thought I would turn out to be a hunter. Well guess what time has come?

It all started one day when my dad said “You should just try to go out to the woods.” I really didn’t want to do it but I said ok because I wanted to try. But when we walked in our woods there was two doe standing right there! Then I was hooked.

My dad said we had to be really quiet and not move otherwise we will spook the deer. Soon the deer walked away from our blind and we got in it. We saw no trace of those does again till later that night. A big doe walked right in. It was almost dark so we had to leave soon.

Five minutes went by and it was almost completely dark. My dad had to howl like a fox to chase it away. From that day on I was hooked!

Since that first weekend I have gone 3 more times. We went to grandmas and grandpas house in Watertown Wisconsin. They live on 80 acres of land and my dad has been hunting on it for years. It was my first time hunting in big woods. We kicked up a couple of does and they ran in front of us. That really got my heart pounding! Later on that evening we saw two more bucks, a 6 pointer and a 4 pointer. I even called the 6 pointer in with my grunt call!

I never dreamed hunting could be so exciting. I like sitting in the tree stand, watching the sun go down and the fact that any minute you could see a big buck. I would encourage anyone to try it just like I did! Just remember to keep practicing and shooting your way to bullsyes, so when you have an opportunity to hunt you nail that big buck.
